Brown Bag Lunch Garden Series – Third Tuesdays

Pack your lunch and join us in our garden setting for casual, informative programs. Classes will be held the third Tuesday of the month. It is an outdoor setting, so dress appropriately for the weather. Programs are an hour-long beginning at 12 noon.

Classes are FREE and open to the public as part of our community education sponsored by the Master Gardeners of the Ozarks.

2020 Gardening Programs at Kimberling Area Library Announced

Master Gardeners of the Ozarks have announced their annual Gardening Program schedule at the Kimberling Area Library for 2020.

Each year, the Master Gardeners of the Ozarks presents the FREE Programs in cooperation with the Kimberling Area Library Association.  All sessions are on Wednesdays in the community room at Kimberling Area Library and are free and open to everyone as part of community education sponsored jointly by the library and Master Gardeners of the Ozarks – volunteers with the University of Missouri Extension.

Master Gardeners Award Scholarship

$1000 Scholarship Awarded to College of the Ozarks Junior

The Master Gardeners of the Ozarks (MGO) awarded a $1000 scholarship to Kyle Kapella, a junior at College of the Ozarks. Kapella is seeking a biology degree at College of the Ozarks and is a 2016 graduate of Hollister High School. Cindy Heider, Chair of the MGO Scholarship Committee, described Kyle as a “perfect candidate for the Master Gardeners’ scholarship. He is an outstanding young man with excellent academic credentials and a commitment to nurturing plant and animal life.” Kyle Kapella is the son of John and Karin Kapella of Hollister who attended the award ceremony.

The scholarship funds can be used for any educational purpose (tuition, fees, books, housing, etc.) and Kapella noted that with his work at College of the Ozarks, his summer work at the US Army Corps of Engineers (Dewey Short Administrative offices) and the MGO scholarship funding, he will be able to cover the costs of his education for 2018-2019.

Heider explained that the Master Gardeners of the Ozarks started a new scholarship process for 2018 which focuses on high school and/or college students from Stone or Taney counties who are interested in pursuing degrees in horticulture/agriculture related fields such as agriculture, biology, horticulture, environmental science, conservation/wildlife management, entomology or landscape/design management. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $1000 per semester and can be used at any accredited Missouri institution of higher education such as colleges, universities and community colleges. Applicants can pursue baccalaureate, associate or certificate programs.

The MGO scholarship is designed to support the financial needs of Stone and Taney County students seeking degree or certificate programs in horticulture/agriculture related fields. It is not a need-based scholarship so no verification of financial need is required. Students must simply have a permanent address in Stone or Taney county and seek further education in a horticulture or agriculture related field. The Master Gardeners of the Ozarks raise funds to provide this scholarship through annual spring and fall workshops held in Branson and Kimberling City as well as an annual plant sale held in Forsyth. The Master Gardeners operate under the auspices of the University of Missouri Extension Council with offices in Galena and Forsyth, Missouri.

The Master Gardeners are seeking scholarship applications for the spring 2019 semester. Applicants who are permanent residents of Stone or Taney counties and seeking a spring scholarship award (2019) must submit an application by October 15, 2018.
